It's an Out-of-This-World Event!
Coming to the Skies on Monday, April 8, 2024

A Total Solar Eclipse is going to occur across the United States - one of nature's most beautiful phenomenons! A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, completely blocking the face of the sun.

Keep Your Eyes Safe
With proper viewing glasses on, you can see the sun's corona in the darkened sky in the path of totality!

Under no circumstances view the eclipse without eye protection, such as eclipse sunglasses, as it may lead to permanent eye damage.

Eye damage from staring at the sun can result in blurred vision, dark or yellow spots, pain in bright light, or loss of vision. Permanent damage can happen in as little as 100 seconds or less, depending on the sun's intensity. Even when 99% of the sun's surface is blocked during the phases of a solar eclipse, the remaining crescent of the sun is still intense enough to cause a retinal burn. Keep your sight safe!

Cause and Effect

The sun is 400 times wider than the moon, but is 400 times farther away, so they appear as the same size in the sky. This allows the moon to block the sun in total eclipses.
