"We do what we can to help others achieve more." A motto that Old Republic Surety employees believe in so strongly that it is engrained in our core value of "Generous." All year long employees are giving of their time and talents to help their local communities. Below are several of 2023's larger initiatives.
Pay it Forward Campaign
This year, ORSC provided each employee with two $50 bills to "pay it forward". This was the chance to make a difference in someone's life, or the lives of multiple people. Employees could choose to give it to all one person/entity or split it up.
Donations went to a variety of causes across the country:
- Camp Carefree in Rockingham, NC - allowing children with chronic illness or disability a free week of camp
- Street Angels of Milwaukee - helping the homeless on the streets of Milwaukee, WI
- Urban Bicycle Food Ministry in Des Moines, IA - volunteers riding their bikes to deliver food & personal items to the homeless
- Several helped friends with a little extra cash while a parent is battling an illness
- Purchased milk & diapers for family members who just had triplets
- Warriors and Quiet Waters in Bozeman, MT - safe, secure environment to manage the traumas of war for 9/11 combat vets and their families
- Purchased scrubs and a stethoscope for a single mother of 2 studying respiratory therapy
- And so many more wonderful causes!
American Red Cross
Thanks to the generosity of our Facebook followers, ORSC was able to make a nice monetary donation to this year's elected charity: the American Red Cross! For each new Facebook "like" received this year, we made a donation to help fund the world's largest volunteer network.
Annual ORSC Auction
Every year employees band together for an annual silent auction. This year, employees raised $2,300 during the auction and Old Republic Surety matched, and increased, the donation to $4,000!
Everyone has the opportunity to suggest a benefiting charity and then one is selected at random. This year's auction proceeds went to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital!
Loved Ministries
Tie blankets
Together we’re reminding the youth that they’re important and loved! ORSC tied 19 blankets for teenagers in foster homes across the Milwaukee area.
Some call these “Blanket Angels”; we're happy to be a part of a wonderful cause providing
these staples for teens to have, even when they age out at 18 years old to live on their own.
United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County
Backpack Coalition
Through donations of time and resources, the Backpack Coalition ensured students were able to start the school year with the tools they need to succeed. Home Office employees purchased and assembled 100 pencil pouches of needed supplies for local 4th & 5th grade students.
Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County
Sponsored 2 families
Employees got involved and helped make a difference for children of Waukesha County by giving them the joy of Christmas through sponsoring 2 families this year. The Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County promotes and coordinates giving to families in need during the Christmas season.
Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS)
We all have a special place in our hearts for our pets and want to ensure the safety for animals in need. Through our monetary donation and sponsorship of the annual "Happy Tails" benefit, we are helping HAWS strengthen "the bond between animals and humans through adoption and education - making a more compassionate community and happy tails possible."
Operation Gratitude
October is a month that honors National Day of the Deployed, observed on October 26 - honor and pay tribute to these brave men and women who have sacrificed so much to protect our nation's interests. National First Responders Day on October 28 - who are the first to arrive at the scene of an emergency in communities across the nation days to. Old Republic Surety is proud to support 40 care packages to these brave men and women.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF)
Reaching across the US, our monetary donation helps continue the work of bringing life-changing treatments and therapies to millions of people living with type 1 diabetes until a cure is found.
Junior Achievement of Wisconsin
Close to our Home Office, our monetary donation supports the local Junior Achievement chapter to inspire and prepare young people for success. Their lessons in financial literacy, work and career readiness, and entrepreneurship have proven to positively impact the lives of young people.
And much more!
We know our employees volunteer for their own personal passions outside of work as well. We encourage employees to be an active member of their community and follow their passions. We are so lucky to have these giving selves on our team!
We are extremely proud of all of this year's charitable work by all of our employees and look forward to what next year has in store.
